Staycation at the St. Clair Hotel Chicago
I had the opportunity to do a little staycation at the St. Clair Hotel in Chicago last weekend, and as soon as I heard it was right off of Michigan Avenue I jumped on it! I used to live right off of Michigan Avenue but moved west about a year and a half ago. To say I miss the hustle and the bustle of city living is an understatement as I’ve always loved being right in the heart of the city!
The St. Clair Hotel is part of the Red Collection, which is a Red Roof brand unique boutique hotel. They also have a location in New York City- Lord & Moris, right in the heart of Times Square! The Red Collection provides budget hotels in great locations with modern, accessible & affordable accommodations in the city, meaning you can still be in comfort and luxury at a fraction of the cost of other hotels nearby… and spend more time taking on the experiences the cities have to offer!
Our Room
I was very much surprised by the cleanliness and the modern vibe of our room. While it’s on the smaller side, it’s the perfect amount of space for two people to get away for the weekend. Our room consisted of a King size bed, microwave, coffee maker, flat-screen TV, and a work desk (with free wifi!). Since I had some work to do when I got the hotel, this was the perfect space to layout the laptop and not feel cramped or like Matt and I were on top of each other. Another thing I loved about staying at this property, is that it’s dog-friendly! Since I usually won’t go anywhere without Lucy, I was so excited when I found out I could bring her- and that dogs stayed for free! Typically you have to pay around an extra $100 a night for a dog-friendly room, so the fact that this hotel allows you one for free is a good deal in itself.
What to do in the area:
Since this hotel is located right off of Michigan Avenue in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood, you’re walking distance to just about every staple Chicago has to offer. Across the street from the hotel is Garrett’s Popcorn, which is Chicago’s most popular snack! You can literally smell it the second you walk outside of the hotel (get the cheddar/caramel combo & thank me later!!)
Eat:
Beatrix
Eataly
Bandera
Quartino
The Purple Pig
M Burger
Shop:
Nordstrom
The Shops at Northbridge
Water Tower Mall
900 N Michigan Shops
Play:
The Bean
Navy Pier
The Art Institute of Chicago
Skydeck
Shedd Aquarium
All in all, we had such a great experience at the St. Clair Hotel! Everyone who worked at the front desk was super nice and accommodating and the location alone just can’t be beat. If you’re planning a trip to the city, but would rather spend your money on some good food (because Chicago has A LOT of it!) and some fun experiences, make sure to check out the St. Clair Hotel & bring the pooch along for the trip!
