First Botox Experience
Happy Wednesday, everyone! Today’s post is a little different than usual, as I got Botox and I wanted to share my experience with you! If you would have asked me a year ago if I would get botox I would have laughed and said no. I always thought of botox more of a horror story than something that could make you feel like a better version of yourself. Well, this all changed on my 31st birthday when I decided to try it out firsthand! The good thing about Botox is that it’s not permanent, so if you were to absolutely hate it, it will go away after time (but I promise, you won’t!) I decided to get mine done at LaPiel Laser Center in Chicago, and I was super impressed the moment I walked in the door. Lapiel Laser Center does tons of different services ranging from Laser Hair Removal (probably the most popular!) to Botox and Skin Treatments (think Dermalfusion, Chemical Peels & Laser Skin Rejuvenation.) The office itself is super nice & clean, and the employees couldn’t be sweeter! I saw Dr. Catalina Ruiz for my treatments and she was so helpful at answering all of my questions and made sure I was 100% comfortable before moving forward.
Since I had a laundry list of questions for Dr. Ruiz at my consultation, I thought I’d share some of my Q&A with you all & what to expect!
How long does the Botox Procedure take?
The procedure itself is very quick. It can typically take around 20-30 minutes depending on the number of units you get. I had around 30 units and it took about 20 minutes, so I was in and out in no time.
How long does Botox last?
Botox should last around 3-5 months depending on how often you get it done and the number of units you get.
How long does it take for the results of Botox to show up?
The results should start to show around the 48-hour mark. Mine started showing around 36 hours, so I got to see very early on how well the Botox was starting to look!
What are the post-treatment requirements for Botox?
Since Botox is a super quick and easy procedure, there is absolutely little to no downtime associated with it. Most people can resume to their normal activities right away, but they do suggest not to lie down or bend over for at least 4 hours after the treatment. Dr. Ruiz also suggested not to workout for at least one day following the treatment.
Are there any side effects of Botox?
Side effects of Botox are very rare, however, some possible side effects may include bruising, swelling, nausea, headaches, and muscle weakness. In some cases, first-time patients may experience a slight headache for up to a week following the initial treatment. This is completely normal and will diminish over time. I did not have any issues with headaches following my treatment!
Does Botox hurt?
This was one that I was the most nervous about, as I HATE needles. I didn’t even have any numbing cream put on prior to the treatment and I didn’t think it hurt at all! It feels like a tiny little pinch at each injection site, and since each one takes like two seconds, it’s pretty easy and painless!
Does Botox change your appearance?
The answer is NO, it shouldn’t- as long as you’re going to the right place! I was always worried Botox would make me look like an old lady trying to look young again, but that’s far from the case! Botox is meant to help refresh your face and smooth up any unwanted wrinkles. A good, qualified Dr. will work with you to make sure you get a subtle and natural look, while still helping to diminish those lines.
Now it was time to start injecting! Dr. Ruiz carefully mapped out each of the injection sites and marked them with a little dot. I was most self- conscious about my crows feet area so that was one area I was super excited to have done. 5 minutes later, I had around 30 dots all lined up on my face, ready to go! As I mentioned, I was SO nervous about the actual needles as I hate them so much and can barely tolerate any type of pain, but it was super quick and I could barely feel anything. I had very little redness at the injection sites when it was done, so I could have easily continued on my day, went back to work, etc and no one would have even noticed I got it done.
All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by my first Botox experience and can definitely say I will continue to get it done in the future! I’ve noticed makeup goes on a lot easier, my face feels smoother overall and those annoying little wrinkles are gone! I can’t recall ever having such great results, even with the most expensive of skincare products. What I’ve learned (and wish I would have known sooner!) is that Botox is actually a great preventative treatment to help eliminate wrinkles before they even begin! This is why it’s becoming so much more popular with twenty-some-year-olds and even brides to be.
