#SheddBlu Recap

This past weekend I had the honor of attending the SheddBlu Fundraiser event at the Shedd Aquarium.  This year marked the 10th anniversary of the event, with over 1,000 guests attending and more than $450,000 raised to support the Shedd’s rehabilitation, rescue, conservation and education initiatives.  The night was filled with delicious food vendors from over 30 of Chicago’s top restaurants, sips from the stocked bars, dancing, an amazing skyline view and a fabulous fireworks show from Navy Pier.

We started out in the VIP reception which included signature sips and bite size goodies from local restaurants such as Big Jones, Macello and Shaw’s Crab House and live music from the Voice contestant Madi Jones (she is amazing).  We were able to walk throughout the aquarium where we checked out exhibits such as the sea otters (they are SO cute) and the dolphins, which were extremely active.  After viewing some of these awesome exhibits that the Shedd hosts, we were whisked away to the Abbott Oceanarium where we were given a private show filled with dolphins, beluga whales, penguins and a sea lion.  The show was adorable and so entertaining, I was so glad we didn’t miss it.

Throughout the night we did some more wandering through the different exhibits, including Amazon Rising and the Waters of the World galleries.  It was so much fun to be able to visit all the of the animals in a more private setting.  There was a silent auction that held so many amazing prizes such as a Kendra Scott gift card and Kate Spade purse as well as golf outings and restaurant gift cards.  My boyfriend and I bid on an Eataly package but were outbid at the last minute and was super bummed!

After eating and mingling, we headed out to the Sick Family Terrace to enjoy more cocktails, a fireworks show and a lot of dancing!  The fireworks are put on from Navy Pier every Wednesday and Saturday during the summer months, but this is probably the best view of the show!  If you missed this event and would like to still join the Shedd for a fun night to see the fireworks show, check out Jazzin’ at the Shedd (every Wednesday in the summer!).  After the fireworks show, busses drove us downtown to Public House in River North where we were able to exchange our wristband from the event for a drink of choice and skip the longgg line that was wrapped around the building!

This event was definitely one of the highlights of summer, I highly recommend attending next year!  The ticket prices can be a little pricey, but it’s for a really good cause and you get a ton out of it.
The view from the Shedd Aquarium’s deck.

Delicious bites from top Chicago restaurants, including Ceviche from Macello.

Delicious salmon from Big Jones– located in the Andersonville neighborhood.

Calm before the storm, the amazing patio at the Shedd which converted into the dance floor for the evening.

Drinks included wine, beer and mixed drinks as well as a few speciality cocktails.

Salmon Tartare Tostadas from Kinmont, a local favorite!

The cutest and most delicious caramel pies.

We were given a VIP exclusive water-life show in the Abbott Oceanarium which included dolphins, beluga whales, penguins and a sea lion!

After dinner treats from More cupcakes, one of my favorite cupcake shops in the city!

Dance party out on the Sick Family Terrace, which included a grand finale fireworks show.
